Psychiatric rehabilitation promotes recovery, full community integration and improved quality of life for persons who have been diagnosed with any mental health condition that seriously impairs their ability to lead meaningful lives. Psychiatric rehabilitation services are collaborative, person directed and individualized. These services are an essential element of the health care and human services spectrum, and should be evidence-based. They focus on helping individuals develop skills and access resources needed to increase their capacity to be successful and satisfied in the living, working, learning, and social environments of their choice. • Inern
      • Jan 2010 - May 2010

Women of Change is a safe haven shelter in Philadelphia serving women who are chronically homeless and who are diagnosed with Axis I mental health conditions. As an intern, I acted as the volunteer coordinator, events coordinator and case aid. My time there allowed me to work with adults with varying types of, and degrees of mental health conditions. The experience deepened my comfortability level in working with and understanding clients who are dealing with mental health issues as well as many other co-occuring conditions and circumstances in their lives including chronic homelessness, medical conditions, prostitution and substance use/abuse.
