Over the summer and into this fall, I have tutored grade school students in reading, writing, and speaking beginning-to-intermediate level Mandarin Chinese. Some of my students have received a head start from my lessons prior to their first Mandarin Class in school, while others have been able to stay sharp on what they have already learned. I helped write a philosophy textbook that can be used in gifted education. My chapters are about 7 pages each and are based on days of thorough research. Each chapter explores the summarized viewpoints of many different writers in regard to a specific topic. The textbook will discuss sensitive philosophical issues in a way that is approachable and interesting for high school students.

As part of the Philosophy 4 Kids program, I visited middle schools near John Carroll and taught students about philosophical concepts, mainly to do with ethics and aesthetics. I introduced different philosophers' viewpoints on these concepts and encouraged the students to form and argue their own viewpoints.

I have worked seasonally at Ruffing Montessori for two summers as an assistant for the Summer Ruffing It! summer camp. I helped elementary-age attendants write a student newspaper. I acted as a translator for attendants who knew only Chinese. I have also assisted in supervising attendants as young as 1 year old, making sure they are entertained and enjoying their summer experience. I prepared and served food to customers, interacted with regulars, cleaned countless surfaces, and bonded with coworkers and managers. Part of me misses working at Subway because of the simple and rewarding experience of making customers happy through food.
