Rachel succcessfully ran a mobile science Lab in a Lorry in South East England in 2011. She had to get up to speed quickly during a short training period and then work remotely for the duration of the contract to ensure that our events ran smoothly. She was efficient at organising events, liasing with volunteers and customers in advance of an event and running them on the day, problem solving if necessary.

Rachel supported the murder mystery event in an amazing way - it was thanks to her support that the event went really well.

I worked as a Freelance Resource Creator for Awesome Engineers. Each week they created a new Lego model and I created worksheets at 3 different ability levels which linked the model to the UK National Curriculum. The worksheets were always varied and interesting, so that they became a highlight of the workshops for the children. I worked as a Freelance Resource Creator for Awesome Engineers. At the NHS I was trusted with sensitive personal medical records which needed to be re-organised for nurse review. Attention to detail and initiative was required for this sensitive task. This position was part time employment through the pregnancies and births of my 2 children. Managing and co-ordination repairs to every single gas flue in this Taylor Wimpey region. This role required me to contact every resident and liaise with contractors to arrange repair. This was a tricky position as the gas flues had been installed not up to code, and there were many unhappy clients to manage. Running and managing the Lorry during its 3 month stint in South East England, sponsored by Thales. The lorry has 3 experiments on it that small groups of school children can get hands on with. Each experiment is run by a volunteer in about 20 minutes. My role is to manage the lorry at site in the schools, booking volunteers, liaising with teachers and maintenance of the equipment. The position at INTECH was extremely varied and required innovation and lateral thinking. My day-to-day role involved the education of school groups at INTECH. This extended to informing teachers about STEM resources and presenting planetarium shows as well as developing and running workshops. I spent about half of my time in 2010 out of my role as Education Officer while working on a new project in conjunction with Astrium and the University of Brighton. e4P was a one-off project to promote physics careers to students. I was solely responsible for the school-facing side of the project in Hampshire. My responsibilities included liaising with Hampshire companies to arrange visit days for KS5, organising careers fairs for KS4, developing and running workshops for KS3 as well as running and presenting CPD days for teachers. I managed to exceed the required numbers of students and teachers for the project and received extremely positive feedback on all aspects of e4P for which I was responsible. Show less

Straight out of university I was employed by Ordnance Survey as I had experience classifying images using Definiens eCognition. At Ordnance Survey I used the software to create a method to automatically classify car parks in aerial images. This project took about 6 months to complete, including a full write up. Using Matlab and ArcGIS, I then proceeded to develop a method to automatically classify the TOC (top of cliff) and BOC (bottom of cliff) lines in the same image with the help of LiDAR data. During my degree I specialised in remote sensing, and so I contacted SSTL to get some experience of what this would be like in a commercial rather than academic setting. I created supervised and unsupervised classifications of their DMC images, to assess the feasibility of producing automatic land cover classification maps.
