Much like how I found myself at the right place at the right time, I found in Rachel the right mentor for me in my career. She hired me on as a reporter while she was the Editor-In-Chief at The Marshall Democrat-News, the local news publication for Marshall, Mo. While I pride myself on being diligent in my writing and reporting duties, I was happy to find someone who can pinpoint where I can improve. Her leading style is gentle yet commanding, and she was a leader you didn't want to let down. Even though Rachel was editor-in-chief at a fairly young age, I never saw Rachel become overwhelmed with her position and duties. It impressed me more seeing as how her resolve and her passion never faltered. Rachel's leadership also went beyond the office. She was cognizant and perceptive with her staff's personal lives without abandoning professionalism. She created a comfortable atmosphere in the newsroom, which made the working environment suitable for productivity. Wherever Rachel ends up in her professional career, her employer will find a dedicated and trusted colleague with a vast array of skills at her disposal.
