    • Early Years Coordinator and Lead Teacher
      • Sep 2015 - Jul 2018

In this role I worked with children aged 3 to 5 years old from a wide range of nationalities in their first year of formal schooling. I used the International Baccalaureate’ curriculum to plan and design an effective learning environment. Many of the children did not speak any English on entry, yet finished the year confident and independent communicators. My students made outstanding progress each term and 97% of my students were achieving above age expected levels, at all assessment capture points. I was the lead teacher and coordinator of the Early Years department and I worked closely with the other teachers to design the assessment criteria in which we used to track student’s progress throughout the year. I used the app ‘Seesaw’ to gather evidence of student’s achievements and communicate their successes with their families, using this online portfolio. We also reported to parents using a formal report card three times a year, as well as parent teacher conferences twice a year. I built strong relationships and networks with students, parents and colleagues working in this role and became the ambassador for ‘Making Learning Visible’. A style of teaching that documents the visible traces of the children’s work, teachers thinking and the learning experiences that have taken place. The process of documentation reveals the experiences that children and teachers have engaged in, to create shared meanings or develop new understanding. I believe in creating meaningful learning experience through purposeful play, where children’s interests and needs are used as a vehicle to teach the desired learning objectives. My classroom and department was inspired by Reggio and John Hattie. I developed a love for ‘loose parts’ learning. Show less

In this role, I was the principal of a small nursery with 100 children ranging from 3 months to 5 years of age. I was solely responsible for the daily management, staffing, organisation and smooth running of the nursery. I developed the ethos of the nursery to create a warm, welcoming and family friendly environment. I contributed to the strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation and development of the nursery. I organized training and monitoring of the staff to maintain a high quality of child care in the nursery. I wrote and implemented the nurseries policies, such as: keeping children safe, equal opportunities, date protection and confidentiality. I counseled and shared knowledge and understanding of children and their learning with staff, families and other Early Years Principals across Dubai. Show less
