During my year with Arlington Reads as an AmeriCorps VISTA, I managed literacy based programs with a team. I implemented and coordinated sites for a new literacy based program, Reading Corps, for students between prekindergarten-4 through third grade that focused on improving basic and fundamental reading and writing skills. In order to sustain the Reading Corps program, I recruited, trained, and managed volunteers from the community. I also collaborated with the Arlington Public Library to promote programs and literacy events, and to recruit volunteers. I documented programs and events through photos and write-ups; and data entry. I coordinated Stories to Our Children, a story-writing resource class for parents and Life through Literacy, a program for teen parents. Show less
