This time has given me invaluable experience in developing an eye for a good story and writing a weekly article of 500 – 1,000 words on top of my studies. I wrote 15 articles in 5 months, with topics including feminism, Covid policies, and the death penalty. I particularly enjoyed writing an article commenting on a pro-choice protest that occurred at my university, as I interviewed attendees and received very positive feedback from my peers and readers. I worked diligently as part of a team to run Exeposé. With my co-editor, I commissioned, edited and published 4-6 articles every fortnight. This developed my research and editing skills, and I learned to effectively use WordPress. This role tested my values when the society unjustly took down a student’s article due to a difference in political beliefs. As an advocate for free speech, I worked with the student and the Student Union to appeal this decision and try to get his article republished. I worked diligently as part of a team to run Exeposé. My organisational skills and conscientiousness enabled the society to run smoothly. Working with the other committee members, membership grew substantially and turnout to our weekly events was regularly between 50-70 members. I consistently stayed on top of my roles for submitting risk assessments, communicating with the Student Union, running elections, and completing other administrative tasks. Creator and Social Media Manager
-
Mar 2020 - Jul 2022
I created a small business where I handmade and sold crocheted earrings and gifts. This strengthened my discipline, as I had to rely entirely on myself. I completed online courses and my own research in marketing and using social media effectively to promote my business and communicate professionally with customers. I created a project with my partner to help people feeling isolated over the first lockdown, which encouraged participants to be creative and spread the joy with their neighbours. I was also trusted with the social media logins to have free reign in creating social media posts.
