I was heading the Electrical loco operations of Secunderabad Division, which is one of the largest Divisions of Indian Railways with originating loading of 70 MTs a year, 300 passenger carrying trains daily, with an average daily Freight loco holding of 150 nos. In addition, two minor workshops for loco maintenance were also being managed. The responsibility includes management of app. 2300 odd crew, their trainings, refreshers, medical examinations, their rest periods, working hours, promotions etc. and standardising specifications, procurement, tender evaluations, contract management for various service and other contracts, and trouble shooting and minor maintenance of Traction Locos. As head of Traction distribution of one of the largest divisions of Indian Railways having approximately 2500 Kilometres of Electrified Track with 17 Traction substations, 55 switching stations and two SCADA systems, the main job included maintenance of these assets and liaisoning with DISCOMs for different items whose power bills were of app. Rs.20 Crores a month.Responsibility included leading a team of 100 engineers and 600 staff, carrying out many construction activities related to system improvements especially for introduction of Engine on load at 9 sidings by suitably designing and modifying the OHE at these sidings; the design of which was latter accepted as standard for Railways.Designing and execution of modification of OHE at almost 40 stations to make it suit to Schedule of Dimensions, which was done duly blocking the traffic, a scarce commodity. It also included management of professional engineers and support staff and contractors for under mentioned projects. • Vijayawada-Rajmundary 25 KV AC track electrification (350 TKM) along with Traction Sub Stations at Vatlur, Samalkota and Ankapalli (First TSSs with electronic Relays and Chinese transformers) and SCADA at Vijayawada of South Central Railways. • 25KV AC Electrification of section Hatia-Bondamunda-Bursuan-Kiruburu (400 TKM) along with TSSs at Chandiposh (220/25KV), Roxy (220/25KV), Nuagaon, Bakaspur, Lodhma with app. 100 KMs of 132 KV Transmission line and SCADA at Bondamunda of then S.E. Railway. • 25KV AC Electrification of 350 KMs track along with TSSs at Hatia-Muri-Bokaro Steel City and Chandil- Muri-Barkakhana. • 25KV AC Electrification of 1200 KMs of Track in Ludhiana-Amritsar and Saharanpur-Moradabad sections along with TSSs at Chehuru, Butari, Roorkie, Fazalpur and Kanth of Northern Railway.
