CPA has been a system integrator since the early 1990s, focusing on SCADA, MES, electrical hardware design and PLC software design. In my role at CPA I started at the SCADA side of the company but i switched internally to do PLC projects almost exclusively. Over the years, B&R developed the ETA-system family for training and development. These systems consist of a robust aluminium frame equipped with various electronic and mechanical components mainly out of the company's own portfolio. B&R tasked me to develop a system within this ETA platform, with a linear drive and associated components. The goal of this new system was for testing and demonstrating homing- and (auto)tuning methods. For this project I carried out the design and implementation of the mechanical, electrical and software parts. Show less

OPC UA as a technology is maturing, which makes it increasingly more interesting to integrate it into a production environment. Vendors are pushing out their own implementations of both Client and Server sides of the technology, which is a very good thing. The downside though: they're pushing it for their top-of-the-line and newest machines. How nice would it be to integrate OPC UA into existing (and in extension older) environments? Gain tasked me with a project: Carrying out a feasibility study into a PLC embedded OPC UA Client for older PLCs, such as the SIMATIC S7-300 line of controllers. This study went paired with developing a proof-of-concept application. At the start of the project, this wasn't the type of OPC UA knowledge I imagined I'd have, but it has helped me develop my skills very much so. Show less

With IAS expanding their area of expertise from mainly ABB 800xA to Siemens S7 (and other systems), the need for an in-house library came up. During my placement at IAS I developed a TIA Portal library with functionalities similar to their already exisiting ABB 800xA library.
