Quentin was a key person on the team maintaining our Sun Solaris environment and storage transition from EMC to NetApp as well as the planning for the future growth and technology transitions. He continued to look for creative solutions to effectively manage costs and to do more with less. He effectively kept hardware productive longer in supporting our environment without adding additional costs. Quentin has had many successful opportunities to resolve issues for support for deployment of our systems around the globe. He has been effective in getting user and deployment issues resolved. He works well with both those within Benchmark Electronics as well as with outside vendors. Tasks he takes on get done on time and are done well. He is one who can be counted on for providing the support the company needs in the areas he is responsible for. Quentin has shown his ability to look to the future and meet the challenges of upgrades and support of hardware and OS version upgrades on our Unix platforms. He continues to improve the uptime of our systems by being proactive in his support of the systems. As a part of our disaster recovery planning, he integrated new technologies to create more efficiency in our backups as well as working on various means of replication to an offsite location. Given his experience, he will be an asset to any organization.

Quentin Smith was recruited by Benchmark Electronics to take ownership of the world-wide UNIX environments. These environments had been managed in a piece-meal manner but had grown in such complexity and importance to justify fulltime management and administration. Quentin took ownership of the environments and brought the expected professional management and service by using good business practices, dedication, and technical expertise. He owned our UNIX world and supported it 24 X 7 as needed. He proved his ability to work individually assuming all responsibility for a major part of the Benchmark network as well as a team player. In times of crisis, such as during hurricane preparation, he raised his level of service to the level of a professional that understands that a section of the business depends on him. During normal times, he was diligent to watch and anticipate issues as well as manage costs effectively. He provided budget planning, worked with vendors, and kept current on trends, expanding his expertise as virtual environments were implemented. I highly recommend Quentin to an organization that needs a good team player that brings detailed UNIX expertise as well as the aptitude and ability to manage the complete environment.
