In my group we investigate the involvement of astrocytes in neurotransmission regulation regarding memory formation and consolidation processes. Various mechanisms as gliotransmitter release and neurotransmitter uptake enable this neural cell type to influence synaptic information transfer in long-term. We also investigate their involvement in neurodegenerative disorders as epilepsy. During my Ph.D., I used to work on in vitro hippocampal neuron primary cultures for electrophysiology and diverse molecular biology technics to investigate presynaptic mechanisms of vesicular fusion, evoked neurotransmitter release and synaptic plasticity. In the same period, in collaboration with other neuroscientists, we developed technics and data analysis in order to correlate presynaptic Ca2+ transients events with quantal neurotransmitter release using Ca2+ indicator. I also scrutinized several potential Ca2+-sensors for their functions in exocytosis using knock-out mouse models.
