Qiuyan helped found the PKS Middle School program, bringing to our school her expertise as a STEM teacher, her incredible flexibility and perseverance, her strong work ethic and-- perhaps most importantly-- her passion for teaching and mentoring kids. Qiuyan worked on everything from curriculum design (helping us align our projects to Next Generation Science Standards) to lesson planning to teaching. She was an advisor to seven 6th graders, communicated frequently with parents, and chaperoned local and international trips. In particular, she designed long-term projects focused on the engineering design cycle. These projects gave students lot of autonomy and choice, while also supporting their individual needs and advancing their skills as young scientists. Qiuyan is an absolute gift to any school community. If not for the challenges of the American visa system, we would have kept her at PKS for ever!

Ms Wu has worked with me to help shape and deliver a wide range of STEM and active maths programs across Southern Asia. She has supported my work with teachers, academic and Science centres, providing insights, research support and reflective feedback on program designs and implementation. Her recent work with me on establishing a framework and pedagogy for the delivery of STEM and tinkering programs for diverse audiences has been of exceptional standard. She combines academic understanding, with practical experience in program design, community engagement and operational logistics. She is always diligent, professional and committed to achieving meaningful outcomes. Any team looking to understand STEM and tinkering projects combined with community engagement would benefit from her involvement and contributions.

Provost's Graduate Research Award Partnerships for Impact is the common theme across the research projects I am working on. Two examples: - Circular Economy Convergence Research: the project involves 21 university researchers and 13 community partners. I conduct interviews and surveys with the team members. From analyzing the data, I visualize and make explicit the team’s progress in moving toward a convergence paradigm. I also use my findings to guide group discussions and reflections. - Research Experience for Teachers (RET): I designed a study embedded in a summer RET to investigate the collaboration between universities and school teachers. I collected data through interviews, surveys, and focus groups. The study aims to provide implications for strengthening partnerships between universities and school teachers in facilitating equitable STEM learning opportunities and outcomes.
