Prioritisation and commissioning of NHS funded research into public health and disease prevention areas. This included identification of appropriate research areas, refinement into specific researchable questions (population, intervention, comparator and outcome), rapid reviewing of evidence and preparation of briefing papers on health technologies relevant to Disease Prevention, identifying and critically appraising existing literature on effectiveness, costs and current diffusion; identifying scope, relevance and duration of ongoing research projects; identifying topics for consideration by the Disease Prevention and other HTA Panels. I participated in HTA panel decision making processes and prioritisation meetings alongside provision of justification of prioritised research in the context of NHS need and a balanced portfolio of research. Latterly, I was a member of the Operational Efficiency Project Board overseeing implementation of programme restructuring to increase the number of HTA funded projects, improve the speed of the application and decision making process and ensure quality assurance of outputs whilst maintaining continuity of optimal service delivery. Additional duties included participation in the research on research programme of the NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Co-ordinating Centre, including management of own research programme and publications including a number of systematic literature reviews, evidence syntheses and primary research into optimisation of recruitment to clinical trials. Dissemination of knowledge tasks included contributing to department learning by running training at panel learning sessions and presenting research internally and externally at national and international conferences. I contribute expertise cross-governmentally on structured education in diabetes and healthcare delivery.
