During my two-week internship, I had the privilege of shadowing two of the Partners at Hamilton Davies, Wills and Probate Law and Family Law specialists. My duties varied, but included being able to sit in and interact with clients on a day-to-day basis, whilst taking attendance notes for the Partners ergo enhancing my communicational skills. Furthermore, I developed my understanding of will formation and was able to act as witness to the final signing of clients' wills. I was able to process many LPA forms (Lasting Power of Attorneys) for clients after discussing with them whom they wanted their power of attorneys to be, when they wanted this to come into force i.e. before or after they lost mental capacity etc. For this procedure, I worked alongside legal secretaries and learnt the basics of audio typing and digital dictation. I attended Luton Court on two occasions with a senior family law solicitor, concerning matters over Child Arrangement Orders under Section 8 and divorce settlements. During my time at Hamilton Davies, their website was under construction and I was allocated the responsibility of initiating new ideas on how the website could reflect their vision and values. Finally, my role also included drafting a number of approved client letters, invoices, and the preparation of case enclosures. I also developed my analytical and research skills by assisting the Partners with legal research and maintained the storage of clients' files. On occasion where the senior partners were unavailable, I took on the responsibility of chasing clients on the phone on matters concerning their respective wills.
