A Toronto-based nonprofit organization with a mission of empowering individuals who are living with obesity through advocacy, evidence-based education, and creating a community of inclusiveness and support. As executive director, Priti provides strategic and operational leadership to the organization. She takes an integrative community approach to addressing obesity as a major health crisis, focusing her efforts on: ♦ Developing and executing a marketing plan, which includes social media outreach and email campaigns, with her executive team and board of advisors to attract potential donors, support growth initiatives, and expand the OM ecosystem ♦ Building key relationships and strategic partnerships with aligned professionals and companies for collaboration on educational programs and special events to heighten awareness of the cause ♦ Promoting emotional wellness in this stigmatized population of Canada through self-empowerment and self-advocacy ♦ Reducing the prevalence of childhood obesity by underscoring the importance of developing good eating habits and physical activity early in life ♦ Ridding our society of the negative biases toward individuals living with excess weight, who are guaranteed the same assurances in life as anyone else ♦ Growing an alliance of medical practitioners, clinicians, and behavioral service providers who support the research that identifies obesity as a chronic disease in Canada and drive policy change to increase patient’s access to treatments OBESITY MATTERS seeks to amplify its community impact and welcomes involvement with like-minded people. Case Study: Get Real Spotlight Series - Obesity Canada COVID-19 transformed the events landscape to a virtual platform. Several educational events were being organized in Canada and globally to disseminate the much anticipated Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs), but the Get Real Spotlight Series organized by Obesity Canada, that I was spearheading was unconventional. We developed an innovative program model and targeted recruitment strategies that resulted in total registrations exceeding 1,000 and maintained a high level of engagement to retain 95% of the audience till the very end of each session. The Get Real Spotlight Series addressed the educational needs of healthcare providers (HCPs) from diverse facilities across Canada and globally, arming them with action plans on how to best work with patients going forward. Participants were impressed with the choice of speakers and topics that were aligned with the newly released CPGs and focused on unbiased, evidence-based disease management, relevant for the HCPs involved in obesity management. Testimonials: “Last week I was able to tell my patient that his BMI qualified him for a medical treatment vs simply relying on lifestyle changes. This has been an amazing learning curve for me.” “These sessions are so important in the changing of perspective and actual behaviour of practitioners.” Show less
