It was a pleasure having Pratik as a member of our staff during the 2008-2009 timeframe as a special projects service provider. He did an excellent job in the gathering of information for, and the development of our intranet document management tool. Pratik worked independently, and always displayed a professional and friendly attitude in the work environment. I would highly recommend him to any prospective employer.

Pratik was an active member of ICL who was a delight: to work with, to chat about ideas with, and most importantly to have on our team designing a crowd sourcing system. He worked on a tool that would manage the very complicated process of importing and converting thousands of videos. He also worked on the interface design of that tool to simplify workflow. If you are looking for a smart, hard working professional who can learn fast and adapt to working conditions then you should consider Pratik. I am happy to recommend him. He will do well.

      - Led a team of 4 engineers to build a SOC2 compliant automated fair lending analysis product; first of its kind, completed and shipped to customers. I roadmapped the entire product development in JIRA. - FairPlay AI Inc had been manually crunching lending books through an ML model and using a graphic designer to build fair lending analysis (FLA) reports for pilot customers. I was specifically hired by the VP of Engineering to automate that workflow into an extensible application flexible enough to handle any bank or lender. - Fair lending analysis required computation of large sets of population data and geographical data against a company’s lending book and historical FICO data. We used dockerized deployment with full data isolation for individual customers as an expedient and elegant way to meet SOC2 compliance. - I worked closely with our data engineering org to adapt models into Jupyter notebooks to prototype. I also worked closely with regulators to ensure that our APIs were compliant. - Completed product was delivered to customers within 6 months; customer engagement time down to 30 minutes. Show less

Building out Services Architecture. De-monolithing. DevOps Automation. Case Studies: Systems Engineering Initiatives: SOC2, Authentication, Service Mesh - After Autodesk’s acquisition of several construction software companies there was a push to unify into a single product offering, Autodesk Construction Cloud. PlanGrids infrastructure was already quite strong and SOC1 compliant. We also needed to meet SOC2 and FedRAMP compliance in order to capture more market share. - Myself and a colleague noticed that feature teams had no time to update existing features and services to meet SOC2 and FedRAMP goals. We developed a hackweek project to make it easier for Python (Flask and FastAPI) and NodeJS developers to adopt newer APIs and deployment patterns using a PlanGrid service generator based on Yeoman. This hackweek project was quickly adopted by feature teams crunched under deadlines to easily port existing business logic and update security and infrastructure access patterns easily. This hackweek project matured into a nexus for new deployment patterns developed by the DevOps team and standard libraries developed by the System Engineering team. - The security team developed security standards and my team was tasked with developing standard libraries that met those requirements. Flask-Toolbox (with publicly useful bits ending up in Flask-rebar open source project) and Node-Toolbox are standard libraries adopted by every backend team. Set up an Istio Service Mesh and Envoy LUA filters that offloaded common patterns from microservices. - Leverage Spinnaker in an interesting way by breaking down long running Jenkins jobs, such as DB migrations and into Spinnaker pipelines - This was an extremely complicated project that was connected to everything and to deploy this with minimal-to-no disruption to other teams was a feat. Acquired by Autodesk (02/19) Primary responsibilities: Full Stack Development, Microservices & Backend Architecture, Growth UI and Data, Payments & Licensing Software Other responsibilities: Data Pipeline Maintenance, Project Planning, Database Council, Diversity & Inclusion Group Leader Projects - Self-Service Licensing - Event Driven Field Productivity & Collaboration - Onboarding & Self Driven Tutorials - User Verification - Micro-service Object Duplication - Micro-service generation and Spinnaker pipelines for deployment Case Studies: Team Purchasing, Delinquency and Fraud Detection - I came into the Growth team with prior e-commerce experience and was able to quickly integrate the correct payment processor and utilize Stripe’s advanced features to manage our relatively complicated subscription model. - I integrated Stripe into PlanGrid to allow customers to pay for license plans directly with a credit card and no prior engagement. - After a successful deployment of self-service purchasing of individual accounts I had to build out self-service for team licensing. In addition, fraud detection and prevention mitigation as well as delinquency detection were required. Workspaces and Project Asset Duplication - An existing feature, Workspaces, of PlanGrid started causing massive performance issues across the whole application. Upon investigation, I found that its way of accessing the database did not scale past a few workspaces. Moreover, I found other features that utilized similar patterns. - I architected a system that was modeled after manifests from Kubernetes with Workspaces utilizing UUID5 references to the original construction project’s assets. This solution saved on storage costs, reduced overall DB latency and allowed the original project owner to more easily add or revoke access to Workspaces users. It also simplified access patterns to Workspaces as mobile clients could now treat Workspaces as regular projects instead of making specialized queries. Show less

I worked on the COVE project as a designer and programmer. Also helped with designing the workspace and setting up the framework needed to support the class based around it. I learned a good deal of what I know about Interaction Design through this experience. The class/project was structured around Agile Web Development, Ruby on Rails and Github. We also utilized different industry standard workflow tools. My contributions took form mostly in Ruby and HTML5. Integrated various open source modules, paper & digital design, interacted with users, did multilevel of analysis of user’s equipment, and wrote acceptance tests. I gained experience in front-end development, on-the-fly video conversion, server file management, and databases of crowdsourced tags. Tools I used in this experience: Git, Vim, PivotalTracker, 37 Signals suite of apps (Basecamp), and many open-source gems and tools. Project was under the MIT OSI License Show less

I worked with Professor Edwin Hutchins. I worked on Python plugins for the ChronoViz ethnography software. The initial usage of the software was to assist in the training of pilots through both simulator and real flights tests. I had to analyze airplane black box data to find meaningful patterns that signal the state of the human pilot. In some sense I had to ethnography on ethnography. I created code that automatically converted black box and ethnographic data into video annotations about the state of the human pilot and/or virtual airplane. I learned Python and Cocoa to work on this project; I also re-familiarized myself with dev tools in Mac OS X for this project. I learned a lot of what I know about ethnography and Distributed Cognition through this experience. Show less

Hired to lead a project to digitize form documents and make a system that allows for easy search and retrieval. Performed contextual interviews in researching the problem and breakdowns. Determined the problem and watched how users in different departments handle the current paper versions of the documents. Final product was a intranet browser-accessible interface the served up the documents to any workstation in the hospital, speeding up the process of billing, testing and filing. Project finished and deployed within a summer period (under 3 months). Also carried out regular systems administrator tasks. Rehired the next summer (2009) where I added more features and continued work as a systems administrator. Added a customized search engine and further streamlined the document upload process. Acted as sort of a precursor to Electronic Medical Record. Also conducted regular IT/IST duties. Show less

A very selective program where a few young journalists and even fewer photojournalists (only 4 were selected from thousands of applicants from the Bay Area). The program was sponsored by the San Jose Mercury News, San Jose chapter of the California Chicano News Media Association, the Castellano Family Foundation, Dow Jones Newspaper Fund, San Jose State University and other Bay Area media outlets and foundations. Mentors from the program came from the Mercury News, Sacramento Bee and San Jose State University. The two-week program is held on the San Jose State campus, where students will work in the university’s newsroom and live in the campus dormitories. At the end of the two weeks, students will have learned the basics of reporting and writing under the guidance of professional Bay Area journalists. They will have spent hours tracking down real-life sources such as politician, celebrities, lawyers and police officers. They will see their bylines or photo credit line published in their own newspaper. Photojournalists were mentored by Pauline Lubens, a war-photographer and Pulitzer prize finalist. Photos were taken in multiple venues: sports, on public transport, on-the-move, formal occasions, in conference settings. My work produced for the Mosaic newspaper was also published in the San Jose Mercury News. The link provided is a mirror of the original site which was once parked at www.mosaicworkshop.org.
