  Since the '70 of last century a lot of Indian children have been adopted by Belgian parents. Many of those children, once they have reached a certain age, wanted to travel to India to get to know their history and heritage (so called 'back to roots journeys'). This experience often leads to some kind of commitment, to the wish to give something back to their birth country. In the light of the above, Side by Side India has been founded by adopted children who, on their return from India, started looking for concrete ways to help alleviating the needs they had seen during their travels.
