As a dental assistant, I am responsible for setting up trays, chairside assistance during dental procedures (e.g. check-ups, root canal treatments, fillings, and extractions), and post-operative disinfection and sterilization. As directed by dentists, I take dental photos, radiographs (e.g. panoramic X-rays, bitewings, and periapical X-rays), and impressions independently.

As a preventive dental assistant, I provide customized oral hygiene therapy. My duties consist of: sealing teeth to prevent caries, assessing gum health, removing calculus, disrupting biofilms, polishing teeth, teaching patients proper oral hygiene with recall intervals for evaluation, and taking routine dental X-rays.

Ivoren Kruis is an organisation aiming to promote dental health through oral health education, and works with various dental companies (e.g. Oral B, Philips, and Colgate) and at policy level with the KNMT (Royal Dutch Dental Society) and NVM (Dutch Dental Hygienists Society). The student council thereof consists of students from various disciplines, analysing current trends in oral and general health in various areas of the country. Preventive Dental Assistant

Dental Delft Junior is a pediatric dental clinic, specialized in treating children with mild to severe dentophobia. As a preventive dental assistant, I was responsible for dental cleaning and teaching children good oral hygiene with recall evaluations. In this pediatric clinic, I underwent a major learning curve in building trust in mild to severely anxious children, by implementing behavior management techniques (e.g. Tell-Show-Do, Modelling, Positive Reinforcement, and Distraction Therapy).
