Machine-Learned Adaptive and Predictive Real-time Controller Design for 𝐋𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫-𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐛 𝐄𝐱𝐨𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐬 (Thesis project): - Designed an adaptive controller using 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 techniques (𝐓𝐃, 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬(𝐆𝐕𝐅𝐬)) for lower-limb exoskeletons by predicting users' intention while switching between several operating modes. The communications between several devices were established through CAN bus and UDP/IP protocols. - An average 50% significant reduction in the total number of required user switching actions compared to the best possible non-adaptive approach was seen. This improves the users' trust in the system and reduces the effort needed by optimizing human-robot interactions.

- Designed a biologically-inspired state controller for coordinating the activation of electrodes placed in the spinal cord of animals using 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐈𝐒𝐌𝐒) 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 after complete spinal cord injury.- Ground reaction forces and angular velocities of hind limbs were used as feedback to distinguish walking sub-states.-This project is an exciting and critical step towards the clinical translation of ISMS. If successful, it may change the lives of thousands of people living with SCI, giving them the capability to walk independently.

- Developed advanced machine learning techniques to solve the control and acceptance issues of 𝐦𝐲𝐨𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐬.- Designed a position-aware controller using a 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 (𝐂𝐍𝐍) and 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠.- The implemented strategy reduced the re-training needs for each user, while maintaining the accuracy of the trained neural network model (92% classification accuracy).
