Bart Kowallis
Porter was a Master's student under my direction. He is bright, a very hard worker, with excellent insights and a easy-to-work-with personality. We are currently working to get his thesis published. It will be an very nice contribution when that happens. I give him a very high recommendation. If you are looking for a hard-working, smart, reliable employee, Porter would certainly fit the bill.
Barry Bickmore
Porter was a student in four of my classes (Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Geoscience Data Analysis, and Mathematical Applications in the Geosciences). He was always a top student, and I can attest that he is a good writer and has a solid background in geochemistry, MATLAB programming, basic linear algebra and differential equations, and data analysis. Porter then worked as a TA several times in my data analysis and math courses, and he did an excellent job helping the students work through math and programming problems. He was probably my favorite TA I’ve ever had for those classes, and I’m wondering how I’m going to replace him this year! I would not hesitate to hire Porter for any job that requires geoscience domain knowledge, programming, and/or data analysis skills. He has all the fundamentals down, and has demonstrated that he can quickly learn and apply new skills.
