Under the Strategic Policy and Initiatives division at the Department of Natural Resources and Northern Development, I worked as a policy intern. I have helped in providing strategic planning support for the creation of policy, legislation, and program alternatives for departmental and governmental goals related to natural resource management in Manitoba. I was in charge of supporting the department's policy analysts with any issues they encountered concerning departmental priorities. My major responsibility, however, was to assist in the establishment of the Large Area Land Use Planning program in Northern Manitoba.I also reviewed various statutes for the reporting requirements where I was exposed to the Environmental Laws of the different provinces of Canada. And I was also involved in the development of cross-jurisdictional scans and general administrative tasks such as note-taking, correspondence, and compiling information.Finally, this position provided me with a great mixture of both political and environmental aspects of life.
