Polina was my supervisor at a community resource center. Something that I admired about her approach to this work was her prioritization of getting work done in public spaces of the community center, rather than in a private office, whenever possible. Working as a Community Center Director and for a short period of time as a Caseworker for the project Athens Housing Collective within Safe Place International. The project is addressing the needs of the LGBT community of refugees, offering housing as well as an opportunity to attend a range of events in the Community Center such as Greek and English language classes, therapeutic groups, counseling and support regarding any psycho-social matters as well as job counseling. Main responsibilities of my role as Director of the center were leading and organizing all aspects of the Engagement Programs of the center, approving and scheduling all classes and events, developing and expanding projects and programs that foster and model community sustainability practices, building coalitions with a wide range of organizations, enterprises and networks and recruiting and managing all volunteers and staff members of the center. Also, working closely with Athens Housing Collective Director and psychologist to create engagement plan, establishing benchmarks for program development and evaluation including building, monitoring and maintaining budgets by attending weekly meetings. Last but not least, part of my role was coordinating the procurement and logistics for all the supplies of the Community Center, creating and filing all the contracts and necessary documents for beneficiaries, staff, volunteers and contractors, according to the General Data Protection Regulation and the policies of the organization.
