The BAE GDF (Graduate Development Framework) is a two year scheme designed to develop people into a well round engineer. This is accomplished by 4 placements in different areas of the wider business, in order to develop experience, technical skills and soft skills, through the means of formal learning with real world challenges.Placement 1: 9 months, Hardware Engineer, working within the advanced HMD (Helmet mounted displays) group with the focus of commissioning, verification and formal qualification within our in house Faraday test center.Placement 2: 3 months, Technical Supply Chain lead working closely with our suppliers. My responsibilities were; LEAN and six sigma techniques to improve supplier performance, root cause investigations, developing & maintaining the manufacturing processes and supplier audits.Placement 3: 4 months, Hardware Engineer, working within a new growing area of the business supporting rapid developments of prototypes to aid the early phase of new bids. This included architectural design - detailed design - schematic capture - layout & routing - commissioning - validation and qualification - utilising rapid prototyping technologies and techniques. Placement 4: 8 months, Hardware Engineer, working with the advanced HUD (Head Up Displays) on the development of the DLE (Digital Light Engine) for the modern HUDs. This involved Hardware architecture and interfacing with other departments, IE PLD and Systems & Software. Detailed design, schematic capture, detailed analysis (SI, PI and Timing).

Flick through the images to see what I have been up to - In my free time I enjoy building and experimenting with various different projects. Most successful of which is my open source 3D printed CNC machine, which currently have over 5'000 members on our Facebook group and more than 47'000 downloads collectively between the three machines (see project section below for more information). Redesigning current shop floor test rigs to improve and add functionality, so the production line can be more efficient in testing brand new products. As part of my time at Barnbrook, I spent time designing 3D printed jigs to reduce operational costs and also add future expand-ability. The majority of my time was spent working in their R&D department, designing and testing UAVs for the railway and military use; testing different manufacturing methods and quadcopter designs.
