Gas Dynamics and Propulsion Laboratory• Developed small-scale rectangular, circular, chevrons, SERN, and supersonic shock-free nozzles using the MOC. Ran Fluent simulations, manufactured and tested the nozzles to investigate the noise radiation in high-temperature jets exhausted from military aircraft afterburners• Performed microphone measurements in the jet surroundings, high-speed PIV/LDV measurements to estimate flow velocity and turbulence, and schlieren/shadowgraph flow visualizations• Analysed flow/acoustic data in MATLAB using FFT, statistical methods, POD, cross-correlations• Developed a spatial-statistical method analysing the skewness of the time rate of the acoustic pressure signals to predict “Crackle” noise source location and its generation process, an approach that was later adopted by the F-35 jet noise team• Investigated flow-surface interactions and the effect on jet shock-cells, turbulence, and aeroacoustics, to simulate the ground or airframe surfaces that are located near the exhaust of military aircraft• Designed a new ethanol/alumina particle seeding system to measure fast air speeds of up to 800 m/s • Design/built 2 anechoic chambers/jet facilities, including implementation of acoustic treatment, structures, high-voltage heat exchanger (~1200oF), valves, regulators, sensors, and LabVIEW codes • Developed a Q-learning code in MATLAB to solve the Theseus and the Minotaur maze, with the aim of applying the results to the development UAV autonomous flight systems Show less
