      I help direct a portfolio of national projects that support institutional excellence and improved student outcomes at smaller independent colleges and universities. All projects have been supported by external funders, including the Andrew W. Mellon, Lumina, Kresge, Henry Luce, and Walmart Foundations. Past projects include the CIC Consortium for Online Humanities Instruction (a pilot program to develop and share upper-division online courses in the humanities); an institute for college faculty and administrators on Diversity, Civility, and the Liberal Arts; the Project on the Future of Independent Higher Education (which included two years of research activities followed by eight regional workshops for college leaders in 2016-17); an initiative to explore barriers and opportunities in community college student transfers to private four-year institutions; and a national symposium on best practices to promote the success of first-generation college students.
