Jason Cordova was without reservation one of the best young officers I ever worked with while serving in the US Army. While he and I only worked together for just over 1 year, I saw quickly that he had a different yet positive attitude and always went above the normal standard to take care of the men trusted to his care! Jason and I ran the Battalion Communications and Electronics office for 1/5 SF Group, he as the C&E Officer in Charge and I as his Sr Non Commissioned Officer In Charge (NCOIC), SF Communications Advisor and Assistant Communications planner. At the time he was appointed as the C&E OIC he was a Lieutenant a position normally reserved for Sr Captains but this would prove to be no significant issue! From day one I got a good sense of the kind of person he was and that he was going to be a good leader. Jason openly admitted to me that he was inexperienced for the job and that he would require my assistance in settling into this new position. Wow, honesty is all I could think and he immediately earned my respect! Our job and getting it right would be critical to so many men and missions. This small element of 6 men was responsible for worldwide communications planning for 18 Special Forces A-Teams, 3 B-Teams and the Battalion Staff. A-Teams would require the best of communications backhaul services from far away and from very remote locations and in most cases the links we provided to them were their only connection back to the US. Jason’s never quit attitude transcended to the rest of our personnel and was directly responsible for the tight cohesion that developed within the team. Jason was also very personable, his door, always open. He would go out of his way to ensure those men were informed, trained to the highest physical and professional standards , and cared for even beyond normal duty hours. Jason and I worked together for nearly a year before he would be promoted to Captain, a rank that he deserved well before that time. He would leave our team and the Army soon after that promotion but he would leave his mark as one of the best men I ever had the honor of serving with. De Oppresso Liber!
