According to the DH&H, 6.2K adults die each year in Louisiana from the harmful effects of cigarette smoking, and another 750 will die from exposure to secondhand smoke. Annual health care costs in Louisiana directly caused by smoking is $1.89 billion. Annual smoking-caused productivity losses equates to another $2.05 billion. However, through development and implementation of strategy including digital marcom, media relations, networking, public speaking, outreach and grass roots efforts, I introduced the Smoking Cessation Trust to Louisiana smokers who began their nicotine addictions prior to 9/1/88. Beginning on 1/1/14, I identified, connected and engaged with a network of 12.3K+ health micro-influencers and 500+ Louisiana news media statewide who helped to enroll 118K+ smokers with NO PAID ADVERTISING (SCT was not allowed to advertise). I ensured compliance with all mandates. Digital marketing communications strategies, patient engagement and collaboration with healthcare providers and micro-influencers contributed improved patient outcomes statewide. When I began working on this project, Louisiana was ranked 50th in the U.S. in smoking rate. We are now 44th. Our smoking rate plummeted from 24.8% to 18.3%.
