Graduate Curatorial Assistant
-
Dec 2017 - May 2018
Partnered with CLACS Director and Assistant Director on the preliminary research for a photography exhibition to open Spring of 2019. The exhibition will present a collection of never-before-shown photographs from the North American Congress on Latin America (NACLA) Archives meant to complicate and de-centralize stereotypical visual representations of the region. As Curatorial Assistant on the project, I participated in the final selection of images for the exhibition, conducted research into the origins of the photographs, recorded missing bibliographic information, systematized said information in standard management formats, proposed conceptual frameworks for the exhibition, and oversaw preliminary gallery plans. I worked in collaboration with both CLACS’ administrators and NACLA editors, bringing my experience and education in curating Latin American content to the team.

Served as Graduate Research Assistant on the project “Visionary Aponte: Art and Black Freedom” - a multi-platform exhibition that opened at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex in Miami , Florida in December of 2017. The show moved to New York University’s King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center for the Spring semester and is currently on view at Duke University’s Power Plant Gallery. As research assistant on the project, I was responsible for aiding the primary curator - conducting supplementary historical research, managing primary sources, compiling historical image archives, producing scholarly exhibition media, drafting and editing scholarly online and print copy, and participating in general exhibition planning.
