A year ago I identified one of my clients as being well positioned to benefit from an IPP or a RCA. I immediately called Pierre Ghorbanian, Managing Partner and Sr. Case Consultant for a strategic partner firm of IDC called Retirement Compensation Funding Inc. (RcF). Within 5 minutes Pierre emailed a one page IPP fact finding sheet to me. I sent the completed form back to Pierre and I was absolutely amazed at the speed of turnaround! The report Pierre sent back to me was professional and comprehensive. IPPs and RCAs help clients deal with a phenomenon known as pension discrimination. The RcF report was prefaced with a Part 1 Entitlement letter explaining the pension shortfall and maximum annual corporate contribution that can be made on my client’s behalf. The reports were simple and effective and helped us determine that my client was indeed a candidate for an RCA while her business partner was better suited for an IPP. Pierre graciously agreed to join me in the final meeting with the clients. He was very professional and knowledgeable in his delivery. My clients were impressed with the pedigree and quality of RcF Inc. which I introduced as one of the foremost expert firms in Canada on RCAs and IPPs. The top notch service and expertise combined with low trustee fee arrangements through RcF's exclusive arrangements with BMO Trust Company made my clients feel even more confident in their decision. Pierre then mentioned that although the RCA and IPP is taxable upon withdrawal, clients may be able to pay a lower withdrawal tax rate if they retire in a low tax jurisdiction. This portable aspect of the plan was an added benefit they had not considered. After Pierre left, one of the partners picked up his business card and marveled at how many designations he had after his name. I felt proud of the association. The case settled in what I believe to be record time considering the insurance case was for $4 million face amount. Pierre's team worked closely with a specialized underwriting team at the insurance carrier and the case was settled and placed 28 business days after submission. From start to finish this was a seamless, turnkey experience for my clients and I. Pierre’s service also continues to stand the test of time. A year later he is very responsive to all questions and his team carefully monitors the RCA to insure it remains properly structured. Ask yourself... Do you have clients who own a business? Have they maximized their RRSP contributions? Are they concerned that their RRSP’s will not provide them with an adequate pension?
