When they do finally retire, they don't really understand the income options available to them. I see my job as being one where I provide information and guidance to people who want it.   My wife and I decided to buy a run down piece of land in the Klein Karoo. We sold everything we had and moved onto this broken down farm with half a house. Learnt so much in the time that I was there. We had to learn to do everything for ourselves which was fantastic. We farmed with cattle, sheep, pigs, learnt to plough, do fencing, building, planning, deal with crises. Basically learnt how to solve problems when they had to be solved as there was nobody to call.
