Jackie Crowell
Small company gets acquired by large company. Large company makes many process and managerial changes. Holdover small company employees are resistant to change. Product strategy is unclear. Revenue is well under target. Sound challenging? Phyllis was undaunted by this scenario, stepped right in and went to work on streamlining processes, providing strong leadership to her product team, collaborating with other parts of the business, and generally bringing order to the chaos that previously existed. I am forever indebted to her for her loyalty, tireless work ethic, wisdom and extremely effective approach to process management that she brought to the team that she managed. She left the place in much better shape than she found it! I would relish the opportunity to work with her again.....

Phyllis brings a structured yet adaptable approach to her work. She is able to make sense of complex problems (product and organisational) and bring order and process to them with ease. In doing so she utilises her own experience and that of others to deliver effective outcomes for customers and colleagues. As a manager Phyllis was very supportive of her direct reports, something I was particularly grateful of in a personally challenging year. I would welcome the opportunity to work with Phyllis again in the future.

As a PO at UL I managed requests from four distinct stakeholder streams into a single, prioritised backlog. I translated high-level requirements into detailed user stories and planned these into 2-week sprints for a team of developers split between on-shore and offshore, using the SAFe Agile Framework.

Product Owner / Service Analyst
-
Aug 2011 - Feb 2016
As Product Owner (Business Analyst) in an Agile Design-Develop-Deploy-Run team, I created business requirements as epics and user stories, prioritised, devised acceptance criteria and managed UAT (Jira, TFS) (In-store grocery picking for online). Previously, as Service Analyst, I coordinated handovers between development, deployment and service groups (ITIL) in the UK and offshore. I taught development teams to deliver non-functional requirements making systems easy to use, hard to break and easy to fix. I devised SLAs and KPIs, configured the incident management system (ICCM, Assure), designed problem determination scripts and instructed service teams.

Something different! I managed a company teaching physical skills classes for parents with young children, using the dance teaching qualifications and knowledge I achieved as a hobby. I built one of the most successful UK territories from an ailing franchise; achieved by focusing on quality and new marketing strategy. Something different! Aug 1993 - Dec 1997
I conducted cultural and procedural change. Logotron had destabilised after rapid growth, I established an effective, motivated team. I created procedures (TQM) and promoted the use of technology. I secured staff buy-in. I managed multiple software development projects (external authors, testers and technical writers), the support service, design, production and outsourced warehousing / order fulfilment. On the management committee, I planned strategy and budgets. We worked in a changing technical environment across three platforms (Acorn, Mac, PC) as we expanded from the education sector into the business sector with our survey package (PinPoint).
