Employed by former NSW Minister for the State Plan and for Community Services, and previously Minister for Fair Trading, Youth, Women and Volunteering. Overview: I was responsible for media liaison, preparing media strategies and releases, holding press conferences and events, crisis management, liaison with Premier's Office, agencies and stakeholders. I managed the statewide media for two major crises - the collapse of a home building company that affected thousands of consumers and the recall of a toy that had the potential to cause serious illness among children. Overview: I headed up the Marketing & Communication Unit which covers media, events and conferences, website management, internal communication, sponsorships and public relations. The LGSA is the peak body representing all 152 local councils in NSW. It is a multi-faceted association with a broad range of stakeholders with varying communication needs and local issues to be addressed, from rural and regional shires through to large metropolitan councils. Achievements: The organisation is responsible for statewide communication strategies and issues management and I was responsible for numerous successful projects including: The corporate rebranding of the organisation in 2002, ensuring that the contemporary brand was reflected in all collateral and that the values of the new entity were promoted through a variety of media Enhancing the networks of events officers and PR practitioners at NSW councils Developing the local government excellence in communication awards Producing a website to enhance the capabilities of councils and schools to work together on projects on sustainability. This involved establishing partnerships with the Faculty of the Built Environment, UNSW, the Powerhouse Museum, Landcom, Green Power, government departments and councils. The website was endorsed by the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. Public Affairs Manager
-
Jul 1995 - Oct 2000
The Royal Hospital for Women relocated to a new facility in June 1997. I designed and implemented a year long communication strategy. Evaluation showed that the outstanding media saturation resulted in high levels of awareness. The strategy involved a carefully targeted community relations program, as well as an internal strategy incorporating staff consultation and participation. Another element of the campaign was the re-positioning of the Hospital through the redevelopment of the corporate image and the design of a new logo. The campaign won the 1998 PRIA Golden Target Award for Community Communication.
