Summer Intern for the Diabetes Obesity and Metabolism Institute

may. de 2016 - ago. de 2017
For the summer of 2016 I examined the metabolic relationship between alcohol intake, specifically binge drinking, and its effects on insulin resistance. In addition to that, I assisted in Optogenetics experiments in order to observe and record the relationship between Agouti Related Peptide Neurons (AGRP) and metabolism specifically food seeking behaviors. Lastly, I examined the metabolic relationship between nicotine intake with obesity and insulin effect through performing triglyceride assays, western blotting, Glucose Tolerance Test and Insulin Tolerance Test. I continued these project until December of 2016.This summer, I worked on a different project where we examined the effects of Blast induced Rats and their effects on glucose and insulin metabolism. I performed western blots and probed for evidence of glucose and insulin metabolism and then presented data at the Mount Sinai Undergraduate Research Symposium in the fall of 2017.
