I've known Phil for 8 years. In that time, I've had the privilege to work with him at two companies. First we worked closely together at Mechanical Simulation Corp. where he was a vehicle dynamics specialist and professional driver supporting customers with the company's vehicle simulation software CarSim. He was also heavily involved in testing and refining the behavior of our physical driving simulators. These simulators and software are used by OEM's and Government researchers around the world. My second opportunity to work with Phil was Hitachi Automotive where he was again applying his knowledge of driving and suspension engineering to design and test the companies suspension dampening components. When not in the office, Phil can found at the local track where he works as a professional race car driving instructor. Phil is easy to work with and his passion for driving and vehicle dynamics shows in everything he does. It was a pleasure working with him and I would welcome the opportunity to work together in the future.

Bollinger Motors is designing and manufacturing new Class 3-6 commercial electric vehicles from the ground up. I am tasked with setting vehicle dynamics performance targets and selecting and working with suspension component suppliers. I am also performing vehicle simulation for ride and handling, as well as range estimation, and vehicle controls integration and tuning. Once prototypes are built, I will be executing vehicle dynamics testing on proving grounds and public roads, and tuning ride and handling characteristics, targeting best in class ride, until the vehicle is released for production. • Set performance targets for vehicle ride and handling through simulation and calculations • Calculate spring and damping rates and validate through simulation • Engage and select suppliers for suspension components • Work with the design team to properly package suspension components • Participate in cross-functional team meetings and provide design and test input • Collaborate with the Controls group to integrate vehicle controls into simulation for testing and validation • Guide and mentor less experienced team members • Work with all team members within Bollinger Motors to bring a completely new vehicle to market Show less

I worked on damper tuning method advancements utilizing full vehicle simulation with CarSim and other CAE tools. These methods are being designed to improve tuning efficiency by creating better baseline damper performance out of the lab, reducing in-vehicle tuning time and ultimately improving customer satisfaction. • Reduced in-vehicle damper tuning time potentially up to 25% using new simulation methods making use of CarSim, MATLAB/Simulink, and Minitab • Reduced in-vehicle tuning by 20% with proof-of-concept method in a development vehicle for semi-active dampers using simulation, subjective and objective evaluation, and data analysis • Supervised development vehicle planning, instrumentation, and testing for supporting potential semi-active damper development business for an OEM customer • Led damper component comparison testing including planning, lab testing, in-vehicle subjective and objective testing, data analysis, and reporting to management Show less

Lap Belt Cinch, Inc. was a family company and early partner of Phil Mather Racing. I assisted in the initial design concepts and gave feedback on functionality. Through my racing and business connections, I introduced the product to many high level contacts in the automotive and racing industries. • Awarded patent (Pat. # US 8,087696 B2 Jan. 3, 2012); elements from this patent are in use in vehicle seat belts and child seats today • Led functional testing and evaluation of prototype, pre-production, and production versions of CG-Lock and SeatSnug • Provided product demonstrations, promotion, commercial support, sales, business-to-business networking, and customer service Show less

I wore many hats at Mechanical Simulation. In my early career there, I directed technical questions to the appropriate engineers, eventually handling most questions by answering directly with examples that would teach the customer how to further improve their simulations. I would communicate customer requests for software features to the development team and assist the sales team with demonstrations at trade shows and customer sites. When they entered the driving simulator market, I assisted with design and ergonomic feedback, and was the expert driver providing feedback to the engineers developing the motion control. I also managed installation and provided operator training for many simulator customers. • Developed, tested, and tuned DriveSim 6-DOF and 3-DOF simulators intended for Driver-in-the- Loop scenario testing • Lead technical support aiding OEMs (GM, Ford, FCA, Toyota, Nissan, Honda), Tier 1 and 2 suppliers, Universities, and international sales representatives • Improved customer satisfaction by redeveloping and conducting customer focused on-site and web-based CarSim training classes and product demonstrations • Presented sales and technical demonstrations of software products at customer sites and trade shows (SAE World Congress, PRI, SEMA) • Conceived and tested examples demonstrating product functionality for future releases of CarSim, TruckSim, BikeSim, and SuspensionSim Show less
