The Kenan Institute, part of UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School, partners with academics, policymakers, and business leaders to produce cutting-edge research initiatives, world-class conferences, and innovative educational programs. Through this, the Institute aims to advance entrepreneurship, economic development, and global commerce for the public good. In my role, I was responsible for website development, programming, and IT help desk tasks. I worked part-time in addition to my academic responsibilities, coding in PHP, CSS, JavaScript, and HTML. My role involved creating and adapting custom themes for each Kenan Institute event, and additional work with SiteCore. One significant project was to develop a web-tool to connect public officials, practitioners, and researchers to successful small town economic development strategies and to inspire small towns to leverage their unique assets. Homegrown Tools is now live and can be found at homegrowntools.unc.edu

As a member of 1789 Venture Lab, a prestigious incubator that focuses on developing student innovations, I worked with 3 other students to develop a web-platform that allows individuals to rate and review their college campus accommodations. Our startup was recognized and awarded funding through the Carolina Challenge. RateYourDorms gives students the opportunity to voice their true perspectives on campus dorm facilities and assists in the crucial living decisions of incoming students. The platform was expanded to 8 universities.
