Phil is a highly capable programme manager able to navigate complex and challenging business environments both internal and external while maintaining a calmness that settles those around him. He always looks at the bigger picture to achieve the desired outcomes delivering value and breaking, what at first seem insurmountable problems, down into their smallest elements to allow progress to be made one step at a time.

Maura D'Intino

Phil is an excellent communicator that is able to interface the customer with professionalism and dedication. I witnessed him to face complex discussions and negotiations and being able to resolve the conflicts with kindness and self-control. He knows how to tackle crisis and is very stress-resistant.

Delphi designs and supplies complete engine management systems, including fuel injection equipment, electronics and software for heavy-duty commercial vehicles. I responsible for delivering the electronics and software package for the year on year updates to the MX-11 and MX13 Commercial Vehicle Programmes. Typically projects range from delivery of year on year software updates driven by legislative (OBD) requirement and market demands, to electronics platform industrialisation. As the primary technical intermediary for project delivery I develop the program business case to secure corporate resources. I direct project delivery from initiation through to project close out; coordinate the work activities of around 50+ talented engineers working from various locations, both on & offshore. I am the focal point for all client communications and stakeholder communications. I have established a track record for 100% on-time delivery whist ensuring that all project benefits are delivered. However, this is a strategically important programme and so I have successfully pursued and delivered improved product quality and reduced development costs by driving process efficiencies. PI-Innovo Ltd is a niche consultancy specialising in vehicle electronics innovation, hardware, software and automotive systems for automotive, defence, industrial applications. As a programme manager I led a series of projects, drawing upon the talents of highly skilled engineers and scientists to deliver both embedded software and total electronic system solutions. With responsibility for the commercial success of projects, I was tasked with coordinating responses to request for quotations, project initiation, resource management, budget allocation, planning and progressing engineering activities through to project deployment. I was the focal point for all client communications and reporting within the business. ➢ Concurrently managed diverse consultancy projects valued between £100K and £3M. Delivered infotainment software to Jaguar Land Rover, engine air management control software to Delphi’s Commercial Vehicle business, multiple electronic system feature updates to the Aston Martin product range and supported an emission control system OEM in their new technology creation programme. ➢ Utilised an in-depth understanding of client needs to identify further business opportunities. Developed a robust roadmap for business growth based upon this understanding and in doing so doubled revenues from one key account. Show less

Lloyds Register Group is an engineering, technical and business services organisation providing compliance, risk and technical consultancy. As Senior Systems Engineering Specialist I was tasked with developing domain expertise related to electrical and control equipment associated Ship’s machinery systems. I successfully forged relationships with thought leaders from within key partner organisations such as BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce Marine, BP and the UK MOD DE&S. In doing so I was able to influence and assimilate up to date thinking related to functional safety of machinery systems into the corporate knowledge library. ➢ Published updates to the 2010 and 2011 Rules & Regulations for the Classification of Ships and added to the International Association of Classification Societies knowledge base for Programmable Electronic Systems. ➢ Created a product roadmap for applying commercial assurance practices to Naval Ships and in doing so highlighted potential cost savings in the design, manufacture and operations lifecycle. ➢ Created a framework for assessment and safety function assurance of wave and tidal energy convertors used in the emerging field of marine energy power generation. Cummins Emissions Solutions is a global leader in designing, manufacturing and integrating exhaust after treatment technology and solutions for the commercial vehicle on highway high-horsepower engine markets. I provided the product engineering leadership for SCR diesel engine after-treatment technology during it’s early adoption into vehicle applications and acted as the primary intermediary between customer and supplier organisations. My management responsibilities also included recruiting, training and mentoring to establish a new and highly effective Product Engineering Team. ➢ Established the engineering capability to successfully integrated Euro 4 SCR engine after treatment systems into commercial vehicles used in both EU and Asian markets. ➢ Delivered year on year cost avoidance in excess of $6m per year through reduced warranty claims, product robustness improvement and improve installation quality. Caterpillar/Perkins is a Manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines. I took ownership for providing programme oversight to large engine projects delivering product adaptations to non-enterprise marine, military and industrial power applications. I drove the recovery of failing programmes by re-evaluating scope, securing further funding where necessary and ensuring alignment to strategic objectives. ➢ Delivered the powertrain control system package for the BAE Terrier Tank Combat Engineering Vehicle. ➢ Delivered the electronic control system package for Common Rail heavy fuel oil system for the MaK Medium-Speed Marine Engines. ➢ Delivered the electronic control system package for Perkins 4000 series Gas engine used in Co generation applications. I was selected for an international work assignment to the USA where I held three key positions during my tenure. ➢ Machine Systems Programme Coordinator: I managed the industrialisation of the electronic systems platform for the T Series track-type-tractor NPI. I oversaw the engine, powertrain, implement and operator controls development projects and managed stakeholder expectations. ➢ Six Sigma Black Belt: As a certified DMAIC and DFSS Black Belt I drove incremental improvements within product development and within manufacturing processes. Some of the benefits delivered included significantly reducing development cycle time by establishing a Rapid Prototyping way of working and in the manufacturing and test environment by reducing the time taken to programme the engine control software and calibrations. ➢ Core Engine Software Team Leader: I led the development and delivery of the core engine control software within Caterpillar’s ACERT programme to meet US Tier 3 emissions regulations.
