I have developed skills in traditional printmaking techniques to inform my personal practice. In 2015 I gave a week long course to GCSE students in print techniques. In 2013 I undertook a two-week letterpress and typesetting internship with ‘Hand&Eye’. This helped greatly in my understanding of typesetting and layout. I take any opportunity to produce hand-rendered lettering for posters and signs, be that on chalk boards or as a graffiti mural. (One of my typographic murals was recently featured as a gym destination image on ‘Pokémon GO’).

Working at the adventure playground has engaged and promoted my creativity in many ways; from producing murals, posters and signs, to providing creative activities for, and in response to the children. The play worker role supports children aged 5 to 15 from a myriad of cultural and social backgrounds within the community – a safe place enabling children to come and play freely, explore and have experiences they may not have the opportunity to have at home or school. The adventure playground provides an environment for the children to take reasonable risks within their play; opportunities such as building dens, climbing trees, or learning how to make a controlled fire and cooking on it. I have to be adaptable to meet the very different emotional and social needs of each child and their family; from encouraging their creativity, skills and development, to being trained in child protection and recognising when special support is needed. As well as taking my own initiatives, I have to be adaptable as a member of the team. Through my work I have also gained knowledge and experience in building and ensuring all play structures on site are well maintained.
