Manager-Stakeholder Advisory
-
Dec 2017 - Nov 2018
I led a team of Stakeholder Advisors and Support technicians who ensured our Governors , CCOs and key stakeholders were provided with timely and robust information, advice and reports to enable them to undertake departmental and/or decision making responsibilities. The primary function of the team was to ensure our department understood the role and requirements of our Governors. We also monitored reputational risk and acted as a buffer between elected members and staff who lacked political awareness. I worked internally with staff on current and future state processes to lift our quality advice standards within the department. The role had a strong communication focus. Writing, editing and reviewing reports and presentations to ensure they were clear and concise but also engaging. As a Manager it was a challenging space to navigate. Direction setting, establishing best practice and benchmarking is difficult when you are serving 21 local boards with 21 different ways of doing things. Motivation, good humor and leading by example were my secret weapons during my time in this role. Show less

Stakeholder Advisor
-
Jul 2016 - Dec 2017
My role in the department was to ensure elected members and key stakeholders were well supported, could easily interact with the department, and received timely and well reasoned quality advice. The role was all about relationships. I had to know how to influence people so that I could get the information I needed as quickly as possible. I also quickly learned how to navigate conflicting priorities in a way that ensured mutually beneficial outcomes. I managed relationships with elected members, other council departments and internal staff to ensure the flow of information ran smoothly and efficiently. I worked internally with departmental staff to raise our quality advice standards. This involves educating staff on the need for quality advice and giving them the tools they need to produce robust information and advice to stakeholders. My role also involved peer reviewing reports, memos, LGOIMAs and media queries prior to release from the department.Key skills that I developed in this role:- Political awareness - Resilience- The power of influence Show less

Democracy Advisor
-
Jun 2014 - Jul 2016
My role as Democracy Advisor was to support the Independent Hearings Panel throughout the Unitary Plan hearing process. The primary focus of the role was logistics around hearings, mediations and expert conferences. The secondary responsibility was customer relationship management. I had to find ways to make a complex, bureaucratic and lengthy hearing process accessible to everyday Aucklanders. What became apparent was that the relationship management aspect of the role was the most critical. We had to adapt very quickly to make the process more customer centric and user friendly to ensure all interested parties still had a voice. The role required high end organizational skills mixed with a need for pragmatic solution finding to meet our customers needs.
