In this role I taught IB Biology and Environmental Systems and Societies at Diploma level, as well as General Science in the Middle Years Programme. I supervised several Personal Projects, Extended Essays and Service as Action projects. I was also a CAS advisor, and the Grade 10 Homeroom advisor. Cetacean Sanctuary Research Project - duties involve conducting ecological surveys of resident cetacean populations, using photo-identification, passive acoustic monitoring of cetacean vocalisations, GIS tracking and behavioural monitoring. Role also involves managing teams of volunteers in scientific data collection, delivering daily lectures in marine mammal science and evolution, and biological survey techniques. Marine conservation research project assessing benthic prey availability using subaquatic-camera deployment and photo-ID surveys of Hector’s Dolphin population. Duties also involved boat-handling; sorting /cataloguing of fin-identification photos. Project focussed on Hector’s dolphin population in coastal waters surrounding Akaroa Harbour and Banks Peninsula. I obtained my Boatmasters Qualification from the New Zealand Coastguard Boating Education Association during this time.
