Philip was a great colleague to work with both for the quality of the work and for the quality of the company. His analysis of places and people was second to none, and his keen attention to detail made sure that every step of the way was carefully considered, avoiding any lapses in knowledge or judgement – important when dealing with clients. He was also very attentive to the quality of the work presented to clients and the wider public, crucial to instilling confidence in the company and in the project.

As Vice Chair of LHC (formerly the London Housing Consortium) Philip has been instrumental in stewarding the growth and influence of the organisation ensuring it acts with openness, integrity and transparency and always in the best interest of the communities it serves. In particular we've benefited from Philip's HR expertise, where his constructive challenges of our policies and processes have resulted in a health, happy, high performing workforce. As Group Director of LHC for 17 years it's been a privilege to work with him.

At Curtin&Co between 2017 and 2021. Following a restructure and rebrand, I was delighted to be asked to join Chess Engage in December 2021, where my work involves a range of development projects, with a particular focus on the retirement living sector, working with political and community stakeholders, and bringing Localism to life in our communities.

I am ward councillor for West Ruislip and Chairman of the Families, Health and Wellbeing Select Committee, London Borough of Hillingdon. I like to apply my HR background to my role as an elected representative - in terms of raising standards and engaging with residents there are parallels, and also in scrutinising service delivery. I enjoy working with residents in order to develop provision generally for local services such as grounds maintenance.

    • Business Connector
      • Mar 2013 - Oct 2014

Connecting the voluntary sector and the business community, leveraging valuable donated time, expertise, premises, unwanted items, and helping to develop a commercial astuteness among voluntary sector partners. Developing longer term relationships to go on adding value. Serving as an advocate for business involvement in a community - the business community is generally willing to help but is not always aware of how relatively small things can make no end of difference to voluntary organisations.

    • Human Resources Manager
      • Jul 1987 - Oct 2014

HR Generalist dealing in particular with employee relations, resourcing, disciplinary and appeals resourcing, training and development, recruitment and selection and corporate social responsibility. Particularly enjoyed running workshops and management development. Latterly role developed into HR partner function.Career highlights include the successful implementation of several restructures, being a change agent to ensure colleagues in new roles were properly equipped to deliver and new ways of working were embedded. In my final three years, I had the opportunity to jointly lead a diversity pilot which came to shape the company carers policy, and also, on secondment to support the BITC Business Connector programme to help local businesses to support voluntary organisations.
