Animal Caretaker Technician/ SME (husbandry)

As SME Trainer I am responsible for training new hire Caretakers on how to perform animal husbandry according to SOP’s and policies. Other duties included maintaining accurate and detailed records of animal health and breeding/mating logs., performing prescribed treatments on various animal species, assisting investigators, under the supervision of the senior technician with technical procedures that included sex identification, bleeding of experimental animals, harvesting tissues (pinna samples, tail snips) using aseptic techniques , implanting microchips, and preparing blood smears.

Cage Wash / Animal Caretaker Technician

As a Cage Wash/ Animal Caretaker Technician my duties included but were not limited to cleaning and sanitizing animal caging equipment; processing clean micro isolators and accessory equipment appropriately, putting bedding into micro isolators, autoclaving cages and caging supplies. I was also responsible for assisting in the sanitation and decontamination of all areas of the facility that were assigned to me by a supervisor. I submitted and prepared required support documents as directed, and followed appropriate SOP’s, safety procedures and quality assurance guidelines for all BSL’s responsibilities. I also performed daily animal health checks and changed animal caging, which included feed and water, according to SOP’s and policies. I had to maintain daily animal census sheets, observation reports and mortality logs, and also examine, identify and properly house incoming animal shipments according to SOP’s .
