The EGP 3 project was commissioned to expand the existing gas processing facility from a 280 million scfd to 680 million scfd capacity with HHI as the EPC contractor. A massive project it was, combining expertise in known engineering/technical fields to successfully deliver the project. Enlisted into the Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) departmental function as a telecommunications project engineer (commissioning tem), the team was saddled with the responsibility to ensure all installed telecommunications systems conforms to project specifications and industrial standards during pre-commissioning prior to the commissioning processes. It was indeed a great experience to be in the mix of such dynamics as it exposed me to a lot of collaboration across diverse functions, especially as a work responsible person (WRP) saddled with the responsibility of leading smaller teams to successfully complete assigned work packs that often times co-exist with activities of other functions. More so, being part of the commissioning team further exposed me to standard procedures and practices as I had the opportunity to work with top-class professionals, learning a lot and equally being an active team player. This was beside the challenges that all had to contend with, working in a multicultural team environment where effective communications could have posed as a limiter to overall project success, but for the resilience and quick adaptation of the various teams, standardized work packages that tend to arrest these difficulties and leadership offered by the project leaders. All of the above and more formed part of my cognate exposures leading to my next job offer. Show less
