Project: Desgined and built a calorimeter with input of 2 Post Doctorates. Calorimeter readings minimize enthalpy loss when heat flux is measured in a Plasma Wind Tunnel named Plasmatron X. ◦ Testing: Collected heat flux data collected in Plasmatron X to determine heat loss. The heat flux was compared to existing model calculations to determine if the tested Calorimeter improves on enthalpy losses of the current Gardon gauge. ◦ Material Research: Determined oxidation rates of novel metals and electric conductivity of ceramics to determine their importance in accurate heat flux measurements within the stagnation region of a water-cooled Calorimeter. ◦ Radiation Insulator: Designed actively cooled Calorimeter casing that cooled slug ◦ Thermocouple Management: Developed unique thermocouple wire management that is compatible with the current interface to facilitate easier Calorimeter swapping.
