One time, at National Semiconductor, I casually mentioned an idea for an improvement to a web service that Phil managed. I thought it was just a suggestion but, to my delight, and only a few days later, Phil's team had it implemented. Phil was senior to me and, by suggesting an assignment for a VP, I might have been "rising above my station". But rank is not what Phil is about--it was the quality of the idea that mattered. This event made me realize what a strong leader and good person Phil Gibson is.
