Bio
Michael A. Franchek
I have known Phil for more than 12 years, meeting him shortly after the WEIDMANN acquisition of the Avery Dennison Specialty Papers Division. I was able to first work on projects with Phil when he was General Manager of the WEIDMANN O’Fallon, MO electrical insulation factory. The WEIDMANN Innovation group was working on our new engineered papers for special applications in electrical transformers. Phil was instrumental in moving the development of these new insulating papers though the manufacturing operation smoothly. Both products are now a success in the market. In his role as General Manager, he made many important contributions to the success of O’Fallon. The facility was able to obtain ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001. Phil then implemented the OHSAS and safety programs across three of WEIDMANN North American facilities with great success. He also managed to grow the electrical paper business sales and margins at the O’Fallon location while in a weak market. Phil has reported directly to me as Technical Director for the WEIDMANN end users markets. His responsibilities included managing the Research and Development Laboratory, end user Service Engineering and Engineering Diagnostics. In the position of Technical Director, Phil has affectively managed our ongoing projects in engineering, monitoring and diagnostic tools. One of his key projects was to develop the value proposition of the WEIDMANN Smart Insulation® and Monitor Ready Transformer® projects. He also managed the development and commissioning of the WEIDMANN transformer simulator, Neptune, which is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of newly developed monitoring devices. Phil has demonstrated to me a strong and effective management style, highlighted by effective communications both up and down the WEIDMANN organization. Part of his responsibilities was to do trimester Board of Director presentations for project updates and budget reviews. He is one of the most organized managers that have ever worked for me, rarely missing a project deadline. He has kept me well informed on important issues concerning projects and personnel, truly an employee I could rely on to get things accomplished. He is motivated by moving projects to completion according to the timeline. I believe Phil will be an important asset for any company who hires him in the future

I have had the pleasure of working with Phil for the past 8 years in my capacity as VP of Human Resources for WEIDMANN Electrical Technology. In that eight year period I have worked very closely with Phil in both his role as General Manager of our O’Fallon, MO manufacturing facility and most recently as Technical Director for our End User Engineering Services. Phil has extensive experience developing manufacturing processes and policies that improve business results. He was able to: • Increase Operating Profit in our Missouri facility from 2.8% to 10.5% during his tenure at that facility. • Increased flexibility in his workforce by designing and implementing cross training for all employees. • Led his team to establish and implement meaningful metrics that were used to drive process improvements to achieve these results. As a member of the Senior Management Team at Weidmann, Phil worked collaboratively with other managers on projects involving his area of repsonsiblitiy. Phil was also tapped to lead cross functional projects such as the ISO 18001 implementation for our US manufacturing facilities. Phil has a unique ability to utilize resources that are available to him to work through issues. He is not afraid to seek counsel and input from a variety of people in order to enhance an outcome. Phil has been a valuable member of the team and will display the same dedication and loyalty that he did during his time at Weidmann in any future endeavor.
