Employed by The Waikato Polytechnic as a Data Entry Clerk and as part of the team to be trained in and set up the new 'Sun' Accounting System for their Finance Department. During that time the position evolved into that of Systems Administrator and I also took over the responsibility for setting up and maintaining the Company's Fixed Asset Registers. One of the main advantages of working for the Polytech was that I was been able to attend classes part-time and finally gain some official qualifications. In 1998 I completed the requirements for a Certificate in Business Studies (CBS) majoring in Accounting and in 1999 I completed my National Certificate in Computing. Duties included General Housekeeping & Maintenance of the Sun Accounting System and various interfaced companion products (Lassarta Bank Reconciliation, Vision Executive Reporting, BNZ PC Banking, and the range of Microsoft applications) Implementation of new procedures, software and upgrades to the system. Design, production and distribution of all financial reports Staff training and backup for Accounts Payable, Account Receivable and General Ledger Clerks Various accounting and statistical analysis and reconciliation reports Collection of internal charges data (ie: Printery, Motor Vehicle) via interfaces, reconciliation and input of data into system. Identifying and recording all additions and disposals of Fixed Assets Running the monthly Depreciation Schedule Reconciling the Financial and Fixed Asset Databases. Maintaining 'non-financial' Fixed Assets Database in Access. Linking and reporting via Sun Accounting System. After finishing my previous employment I was hired for 2 months with Pacspec as they had just installed the CBA accounting package and needed someone with a background in accounting and computers to help them set up and implement systems. My objectives were to examine their existing operations and redesign their paper trail to work with the new system. At the time the company was looking at shifting its operations to Auckland which is why I did not consider a full time position with them.
