Jeff Stonehouse
Phil is a highly productive and motivated scientist. He has an incredible capacity for work and can execute numerous tasks simultaneously and effectively. He is often the first to volunteer for a new task and will prosecute this in an efficient manner to a very high standard. His knowledge of synthetic chemistry is very high and he continues to grow as a medicinal chemist. He has recently taken on more strategic lead chemistry roles and is showing great desire and aptitude for this. Phil was deputy lead chemist on a lead optimisation project. He has brought his wide experience of synthesis, isolation and characterisation of novel compounds, to delivering quality and quantity (10mg -100g) to agreed timelines, supporting routine screening and safety evaluation bookings. Phil has designed at least 4 new compound classes, entering into the back-up program, by challenging the status quo and his interpretation of biological assay and drug metabolism & pharmacokinetics results. His clear communication style allows him to effectively lead weekly international multi disciplinary team progression meetings, via teleconference, identifying and agreeing actions. Phil is AZ qualified Risk Assessor, he has a wide safety and hazard evaluation knowledge, writing and reviewing procedures and safety documents, including the use of pyrophoric liquids within the department. He also led SHE initiative leading to supply and waste vessels for prepHPLC to run 24/7. Publications 10 patents, 4 journal publications,1 external oral presentation. Phil is a competent user of standard PC applications, standard chemistry software (e.g. Scifinder) and proprietary applications. Phil is a superuser and trainer for a number of proprietary applications.
