Starting out as a Paste-Up Artist (Apple hadn't released the first Mac when I started), I "pasted-up" annual reports for Blue Chip clients including Bass, Ranks Hovis McDougal, More O'Ferrall and The Lords Taverners, painstakingly and accurately hand-laying banks of typeset copy onto art board, then shooting them under a PMT camera in readiness for print. I hand-drew financial graphs for the Bank of England (they took hours but looked great), I made rub-downs, which were the equivalent of today's Letraset, and when the Mac did eventually make its way into the studio, I set up and ran a repro house, supplying print-ready artwork to sister companies within our group. I spent five happy years there, and truly believe it gave me the best grounding possible in terms of appreciating good typography. Show less
