I was a senior software developer for Community Connect 3 (CC3), RM's flagship network management software written in Microsoft .NET / C++. CC3 allows admin users to manage, deploy and upgrade software across a WAN/LAN. I worked on various projects for CC3, the main one being the User Management Interface.I designed and developed several profile management components for the CC3 Workstation Performance project. My components were written in .NET 2 and used technologies such as .NET installer, .NET Windows services, COM Interop, .NET remoting (IPC & config file), scheduled tasks, Winlogon notifications, WMI publication, file system and Event logging. The CC3 Workstation Performance project was well received by CC3 customers, as it made significant improvements to workstation management and automated software deployments.I lead the technical development for Virtual CD 7, a virtual CDROM/DVD player that allows users to install and deploy 3rd party software on to a CC3 network. I was responsible for the technical architecture, guiding developers, reporting to project managers and supporting field-trials.I worked as part of a team to redesign and develop a new version of an internal build website, used by developers to manage and submit components to the automated build process. The website was rewritten in ASP.NET and includes additional functionality such as auto generated emails (SMTP relaying), .NET assembly signing, integration with SubVersion, CD build Wizard and extensive search & reporting. I designed and developed several back-end components for the CC3 factory and on-site build process, which is responsible for populating and configuring new user, group, OU and policy (GPO) objects, stored in the local Active Directory. The LDAP provider was used to create and configure AD objects and XML files were used to store object settings and hierarchies. All components were written in Visual Basic 6 and expose functionality via COM. Documentation responsibilities included writing test specs, a user manual and help documentation for commissioning engineers and LEAs. The back end components have been in use since early 2000 and have been used to build and commission more than four thousand networks in the UK (CC3) and Northern Island (C2k).I designed and developed a solution to repackage and deploy 3rd party Antivirus software on to CC3 and C2k networks. The solution automatically installs and configures antivirus software (Symantec Antivirus) on to network servers and workstations via a Visual Basic 6 application, InstallShield 3 installer and the existing CC3 package deployment mechanism. I was responsible for evaluating several Antivirus products and presenting my recommendations to marketing before proceeding in to development. I spent a large proportion of my time liaising with the manufacturer to obtain technical information during the analysis and design stages and to ensure our solution would be workable and supportable.I was involved with the initial design and scalability testing of the Active Directory (AD), the main data store used on the C2k project. My work involved designing and implementing a toolset that could be used to automate the scalability and performance testing of a large scale AD that would be used as the central repository for networks across Northern Island. The tools were written in Visual Basic 6 and VBScripting and used SYSInternals tools for remote tasks such as starting processes, file\registry and process monitoring. Show less
