Simon Sparkes FRAeS
I worked with Phil in the complex partnership between the MoD and QinetiQ at Boscombe Down. He was a highly effective, customer focused engineering group manager who drove through change in a difficult and challenging contractual environment. Despite these limitations he consistently strove to deliver aircraft to the flight line utilising highly innovative Lean-based techniques whilst sustaining a unerring focus on aviation safety. The engineering and flying operations at Boscombe are the most complex within defence, nominally at the forward edge of technology, with a wide range of both operational and airworthiness stakeholders. I would gladly work with him again.
Nicholas Herbert
Phil was a particularly effective Line Manager, responsible for a large team of Licensed Engineers in maintaining a widespread fleet of B747 Classics for EAAC. Despite the varied pressures inherent in such a task, he managed to not only ensure the most efficient utilisation of his available manpower, but do so in a cost-effective manner.
